Who is liable for a broken window in a rental property?
Ok, so I know I am…I’m the one who broke it. The thing is, it is a flowery pattern glass. I broke the small window pane, at the bottom. There is a larger one above it, still perfectly fine. By law I have to fit safety glass in, and it doesn’t come in the old original pattern. The realestate said I’d have to pay to fit new glass for the unbroken top piece as well, so they both match.
Does that seem right?
Yes, you want the door to look decent.
You may be able to have a piece crafted, do not assume you need tempered glass, you usually do not on a framed door. If you are within 5 feet of stairs, yes, but otherwise check.

If it was yours, is that the way you would want it? Of course it is right! Someone worked hard to pay for everything in the house you are renting. They don’t expect to get it back in worse condition than they gave it to you. Fix it properly. It is the right thing.

yes, it does. if this was your home, would you want someone replacing the glass with some bargain basement subsitute. i know that it was an accident, but unfortunately "sorry" doesn’t get this person a new window.

If you broke it then you are responsible to replace the window if you can’t get it to match then you must replace the entire window. Your negligence your expense, sorry. If it were your house and your window you’d want it to match.

The tenants. As you have sign the agreement with the agent or Landlord. You have a right to protect the property under the lease agreement.
